ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has welcomed the US-Iran peace agreement, crediting Pakistan’s leadership role in facilitating the diplomatic breakthrough and praising the contribution of Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir.
In a statement shared on social media, Naqvi said that Field Marshal Asim Munir had “once again delivered results,” adding that this time his efforts were not only for Pakistan but for global peace and stability. He accompanied his remarks with a picture of the military chief.
The comments came after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the United States and Iran had reached a peace agreement, ending months of conflict and paving the way for a formal signing ceremony scheduled to take place in Switzerland on June 19.
According to the prime minister, the agreement includes an immediate and permanent cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon. He also acknowledged the diplomatic support of regional partners, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, in helping facilitate negotiations.
The US side, including President Donald Trump, has also confirmed the agreement, describing it as a major step toward stabilising the region. Iranian state media similarly reported that a deal had been reached, although official Iranian leadership statements remain limited.
Naqvi’s remarks have added to domestic political commentary surrounding Pakistan’s perceived diplomatic engagement in the crisis, with officials highlighting Islamabad’s role in mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran.
The US-Iran agreement is expected to include provisions on ending military operations, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and initiating further negotiations on sanctions relief and nuclear-related issues over the next 60 days.
The developments mark a significant shift in regional geopolitics, with global leaders closely watching the implementation of the agreement and its impact on Middle East stability and energy markets.
