As many as 44 Kashmiris were arrested on Thursday in Shopian and Pulwama districts of Indian Occupied Kashmir by the Indian security forces. Kashmir Media Service relayed that 38 youth had been arrested during raids conducted in late hours in Tahab and Chewakalan areas of Pulwama. Six others were arrested in Vehil and Narwah areas of Shopian, it maintained. As the Indian general polls in occupied valley reach the final phase, elections are scheduled to be held in Pulwama and Shopian districts on Monday. Earlier in April, Indian army martyred 13 Kashmiris, including a young boy. Data collected by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service revealed that 132 people had been critically injured by pellets, bullets and teargas shells over the month. At least 182 civilians, mostly youth and Hurriyat leaders and activists, were arrested while many were booked under the guise of the black law, Public Safety Act. During April, six women were also molested by Indian troops that damaged 20 houses.
