The different legal issues he spoke about were very important and tricky in nature. He greeted us and took the start with a smile on his face which continued until the very end. One by one, every knot was untangled and we were briefed in a solemn voice. We, the lawyers know the sanctity of our profession; very few of us go astray and misguide others, like in all other professions and in every corner of society. We acknowledge our senior’s experience, knowledge, and wisdom. Following their footsteps, we all put our untiring efforts in our work and try our level best to justify our duties towards Allah and His mankind. The Honourable Chief Justice did not forget to entertain the issues of fake degrees who, undoubtedly, soiled the whole legal fraternity while the holders have their own targets and purposes which are quite unacceptable to all The Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa gave apt replies to many unanswered questions and explained that the violent storm against the decision about 22-A, 22-B CrPC was nothing but the desire of a few persons which was aimed to create some confusion between the lawyers and the judiciary. The said sections were neither abolished nor condemned but the procedure was declared mandatory, the procedure which was followed by some lawyers and was neglected by others. The Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan emphasized different possibilities to curtail the lengthy procedure of pending cases and delay in trials. How the lawyers take undue favors; and in some cases, due adjournments, and so the cases take breathtaking delay and clients loose hope upon the judicial procedure and strive to settle their problems outside the court, by hook or by crook, and that is how the ultimate goal of justice loses its scope and veracity. Moreover, he said that our pending cases should be dealt with utmost curiosity and missionary zeal to provide justice to hundreds of clients that fall in a waiting list. Mr. Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa also recalled his late father’s efforts and faith in justice and rules and how he traversed a long journey as a faithful, valuable and self-made lawyer who worked hard and earned respect. He was the role model for everyone who knew him. The Honourable Chief Justice did not forget to entertain the issues of fake degrees who, undoubtedly, soiled the whole legal fraternity while the holders have their own targets and purposes which are quite unacceptable to all. He insisted upon the lawyers to regain their lost prestige and should angle their concepts and frame their ways in accordance with the rules and regulations to benefit others and their own selves in every best perspective. He did not neglect the trend adopted by the lawyers’ community to win elections as we play in the hands of the investors. I think the most knowledgeable lawyer loses hope to come forward and present himself as a role model for others just because he has hard earned money which he can never spend upon serving other’s breakfast, meals, and gifts. Undoubtedly, they should never be encouraged. Mr. Justice Asif Saeed Khosa also focused on the issue of rotation of Honourable Judges which may bring radiant change in spirit to learn more and deliver more. The seats in Islamabad High Court must also be filled appropriately to unburden present four Honourable Judges. The Honourable Chief Justice did not forget the need for training of young lawyers in which senior lawyers should play their role. The cases of succession, which were handed over to NADRA, also came under the light in a way that obvious and clear matters would be handled by NADRA; and for disputed matters, courts are open for them. He facilitated lawyers by introducing the concept of video conference in many courts and desired to enrich the rest of the courts in Pakistan by this communication aid. Due to this technological facility a witness, sitting in a foreign state, can be witnessed. Moreover, a lawyer busy in Karachi Courts can present his/her arguments before Islamabad District Court. It is undoubtedly, a time and a money-saving facility. By his grace, we are also benefited in Sessions Courts, Islamabad. The discussion was held in a conducive atmosphere and we bid him adieu with the hope to meet again some other day. The writer is a practicing lawyer in Islamabad High Court)
