An accountability court on Saturday approved an extension in judicial remand of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Khawaja Saad Rafique and Khawaja Salman Rafique for 16 days in a corruption case. To a query by the accountability court judge, Syed Najmul Hasan, on the progress in finalising the reference, National Accountability Bureau investigation officer replied that Paragon Housing reference will be presented before the 90-day mark of the PML-N leaders’ incarceration. The officer was then directed to “work fast and file a reference”. The Khawaja brothers were brought to court amid tight security as heavy police contingents, including the Anti-Riot Force (ARF), were deployed around the premises. Speaking to the media sources outside the court, Khawaja Saad Rafique said, ” Today, I was brought in an armoured vehicle which looked like it was 60 years old and it took us one hour to get to the court.” Published in Daily Times, February 17th 2019.
