Conceptual artwork of a practicing artist Sonia Rashid was recently displayed at Nairang Art Gallery in Lahore. She opted for Fine Arts during her early academic years. She completed her Masters degree in Visual Arts from Lahore College for Women University and during that time, she also participated in many art exhibitions. During her MS Research, her point of emphasis was the deep study of the history of arts. Concept and sense of feel are the major areas of focus in her work. One of her oil paintings titled Endangered Marco Polo’s idea is taken by endangered sheep namely Marco Polo sheep, which are iconic animals of highland pastures especially found in Pakistan, China and Afghanistan. They have the longest horns of any sheep in the world and have become cherished trophies of foreign and local hunters. According to World Wildlife Fund, Marco Polo sheep is decreasing rapidly. Sonia Rashid’s painting is pointing out this issue in a soft way. She usually works in acrylics and oil paints. She says that she spends most of her time in the studios and doing something creative and she further says that her parents and siblings have always been her courage and great support. According to her views on being a visual artist, Rashid says, “An artist’s job is to explore concepts and thoughts in visual forms without the fear of perfection.” She says that she will continue to explore her concepts and represent them in her art work.
