Indian citizen Hamid Nehal Ansar, who served a three-year sentence for his involvement in anti-state activities and forgery, was handed over to Indian authorities on Tuesday after Islamabad announced his release.
Hamid Ansari, an Indian national, entered Pakistan without valid travel documentation back in 2012. In December 2015, Ansari was sentenced to three years in jail by a military court. The Peshawar High Court, earlier on December 13, ordered the release of Ansari within a month and directed the Ministry of Interior to present a report in this regard within 14 days. The convicted spy was handed over to Indian authorities at Wagah border after being transported to Lahore from Mardan jail where he had been serving his sentence.
Earlier on Tuesday, Foreign Office (FO) spokesman had announced that Ansari would be handed over to Indian authorities at the Wagah border.
