Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) helped students to focus on job creation instead of job seeking. It is a great opportunity for youth to participate in interactive sessions and training workshops to learn about success stories, innovative ideas and enhance their knowledge about entrepreneurship. These remarks were made by speakers at the closing ceremony of GEW at Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (RCCI) on Monday. RCCI President Malik Shahid Salim, in his address said that RCCI has taken the initiative to be a part of GEW as a step to facilitate youth, develop a stronger private sector, assist the innovators and support the idea of entrepreneurship as a career opportunity. He emphasised on universities to provide such opportunities so that students can polish their skills and knowledge about entrepreneurship. Students now are very keen to learn e-commerce, mobile apps and blogging. He asked students to develop skills and knowledge and contribute to the prosperity of their country. “We hope that our efforts of strengthening industry-academia linkages will prove to be fruitful and we will see better and more entrepreneurs in future,” he further added. Pakistan Institute of Entrepreneurship (PIE) President Tahir Mahmood Chaudhry said that commitment, ethics and good governance are the need of hour and Pakistan needs full support of the business community to foster entrepreneurship. He was also the guest speaker at the event. PIE former presidents Sohail Altaf, SM Naseem, Kashif Shabeer, Raja Amir Iqbal and Dr Shamail Daud in their address, discussed various aspects of entrepreneurship, financing, entrepreneurial culture, innovation and business technology leadership as well as corporatisation in Pakistan. The speakers also discussed the key impediments being faced by the aspiring entrepreneurs in Pakistan and also highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship for economic development of the country. They also shared the success stories of key brands and businessmen from Pothohar region. Later, the RCCI president performed a cake cutting ceremony. Published in Daily Times, November 20th 2018.
