Ustad Roshan Khan, a legendary classical singer of Gwalior Gharana and brother of Ghulam Abbas Khan shared his thoughts on the origin and evolution of music here at the PNCA auditorium under the ‘Baithak’ musical program. His discourse on the music included 12 notes and principles of variations and the importance of music. The discourse provided opportunity to the young singers in the field to meet a great musician. Earlier, PNCA Director General Jamal Shah paid tributes to Roshan Khan for his services and contributions to the music world. He was groomed under the tutelage of his late uncle Ustad Ahmed Ali Khan and father Ustad Rahmat Ali Khan of Gwalior Gharana. Roshan Khan can be termed as an exciting prospect for Pakistani classical music. Gwalior Gharana is considered to be one of the pioneering schools of Khayal singing alongside Kirana, Qawwal Bacchay, Talwandi and Agra. The Gharana is said to have been founded by Ustad Nathan Peer Buksh who was associated with the Gwalior Court. His art was passed on to his grandsons, the legendary Ustad Haddu and Hassu Khan. Roshan hails from a family of musicians who have been vocalists for almost 500 years. He received a great applause from the music enthusiasts for presenting his best compositions.
