Published on: October 24, 2018 3:51 PM

LARKANA: As many as 42,925 proclaimed offenders and absconders are present in Larkana Police range for which only 16,500 cops are posted, police data revealed on Wednesday.

According to statistics maintained at DIGP office Larkana, out of these 42,925 offenders of law, 3,837 POs and 6151 absconders exist in Larkana district and 2,247 and 4,283 in Kambar-Shahdadkot district.

Moreover, 8,170 and 1,520 in Shikarpur district, 5,472 and 3,436 in Jacobabad district, 5,433 and 2,366 respectively in Kashmore district. In total, 25,169 POs and 17,756 absconders are still at large in the entire Larkana division.

Larkana range consists of five districts which include Kambar-Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore and Larkana where approximately 16,500 police officers and officials are posted to maintain law and order at 144 police stations and 2,187 posts are vacant in the entire range.

Karo-Kari (honour killing) cases saw an increase as 45 honour-killing cases were registered in entire Larkana range in 2017 but by the end of September 2018 as many as 52 cases have been registered thus far. 16 males were killed along with 45 females out of which 17 women were gunned down for honour in Kashmore district alone during the current year. The statistics further showed that 41 accused were arrested and Challans of 52 cases were submitted in the relevant courts.

Child abuse cases saw decrease in comparison to last year. According to the police data, 18 child abuse cases were registered in 2017 in the entire division but so far 10 cases have surfaced in 2018. The ratio of child abuse cases is higher in Shikarpur district as 12 cases were registered in 2017 and so far six cases have been lodged in the same district out of which nine were boys and five were girls.

As many as five tribal feuds are active in Shikarpur district which include Kalhora-Mangneja dispute, Kakepota-Brohi dispute, Shar-Kehar dispute, Tunia-Brohi dispute and Dahani-Sadhaya dispute for which the government should take serious measures to resolve these on-going feuds to save precious human lives.

One SHO posted in Ghotki district said that offenders of law have sophisticated weapons which include Dahshako which are fitted around their hideouts. He said this weapon can fire ten huge bullets at a time adding that the police cannot face such modern killing machines.

DIGP Larkana range Javed Akbar Riaz told Daily Times on Wednesday that resources are better now as compared to the past. He said SSPs have launched crackdown on these absconders. In reply to a question he said massive funding of billions of rupees was required to build infrastructure including police quarters and station.

He claimed Sindh Police is not politicised now but if 100 percent results were desired then it should be made totally autonomous for which new law is required. He said no major incident has taken place in entire Larkana range which shows that law and order has improved due to police efficiency.
