Sindh Minister for Labour Ghulam Murtaza Baloch expressed his annoyance at the lack of cleanliness in Kulsum Bai Valika Hospital and questioned how poor patients could recover in the hospital’s ‘pathetic and unhygienic conditions’. The minister paid a surprise visit to Kulsum Bai Valika Hospital on Saturday and directed medical superintendent (MS) Dr Muhammad Nawaz Gahoti to take strict action against all the supervisors and cleaning staff over negligence towards their duties. He went through all wards and sections of the hospital including the operation theater, offices, rooms, and pharmacy. Minister Baloch also talked to the patients and asked them about the standard of services and facilities provided at the hospitals. He noted their complaints and promised to address them. Ghulam Murtaza Baloch also inspected and ate the food provided to patients by the hospital mess and expressed satisfaction over its quality. He directed all doctors and staff to be humble and friendly while treating patients and dealing with their attendants. “These poor and ill workers need extra attention and care; our loving and amicable behavior would be like an ointment on their injuries and will be helpful for their early recoveries,” he advised the staff. Minister Baloch warned that he would continue making surprise visits and hold the staff accountable for mismanagement. Published in Daily Times, October 21st 2018.
