ISLAMABAD: An inquiry has been initiated into the charges of embezzlement, corruption, malpractices, theft of valuables worth millions of rupees and uniforms of the drivers and conductors against acting director Admn Abdul Waheed Khan of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE).

The inquiry has been launched by an inquiry committee constituted by the secretary CADD receipt of a written application through which allegations of corruption have been levelled and an approval has been obtained for lodging an FIR against the said acting director Admn.

Well placed sources told Daily Times that the ministry of CADD has launched an inquiry against Maj (Retd) Abdul Wahid Khan acting director Admn FDE for his alleged involvement in massive corruption.

Through letter No F.4-45/2016-(Edu) issued on January 25, 2017 a fact finding inquiry committee has been constituted and Abdul Wahid Khan has been informed in writing to appear before the inquiry committee. Sources said former DG Education Dr Shahnaz A Riaz had also written a letter to the ministry of CADD against the said officer on September 6, 2016. However no inquiry could be held on this letter, sources added.

Sources said that several allegations have been levelled against Abdul Wahid Khan through the new application filed with secretary CADD.

The allegations include a show cause notice issued by the department to Abdul Wahid Khan for contacting directly to DG Establishment in connection with his promotion, issuance of show cause notice to him for printing his card by showing his designation as director monitoring while he was serving as deputy director, his written reply to the explanation letter issued to him for his alleged involvement in removing a personal file of the former DG from his office and lodging of a wrong FIR by him against former director Admn Ghulam Yasin Awan on account of theft of an official motorcycle. Later this motor cycle was recovered from inspector Shahnawaz who was serving in the monitoring department.

The other allegation levelled against him cites purchases made by him worth millions of rupees at higher rates from his favourites without the approval of the DG in the federal directorate in June, 2016, an attempt made by him for placeing his name in the MC course ignoring senior colleagues, breaking of the locks of the room of the AD Tech Salim Akhtar Awan and taking away Rs 80000 in cash, important documents, goods costing Rs 600000, alleged stealing of the uniform of drivers provided to them under PM Reforms Programme and receiving deputation allowance illegally.

Sources said this application had been sent by assistant director Tech Salim Akhtar Awan through which approval had also been obtained for lodging an FIR from the ministry of CADD against acting director Admn Abdul Wahid Khan.

When contacted, acting director Admn Abdul Wahid Khan told Daily Times all the allegations levelled against him were wrong. “I have filed an application with the ministry of CADD against assistant director Tech with reference to his corruption,” he added. When asked that Dr Shahnaz A Riaz had also given an application against him he said the former DG was mentally sick, therefore, she had levelled allegations against him.
