LAHORE: Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday sought arguments on petition of Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Haifz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, seeking restoration of the security. A report was submitted on behalf of the capital city police officer (CCPO) stating that security could not be provided to Ashrafi. It stated that security of Ashrafi had been withdrawn in light of a general order passed by the Supreme Court The report further stated that the petitioner could hire private security, if he deemed necessary, subject to permission from the provincial government. After the CCPO report, the court adjourned hearing till October 15 with directives to Ashrafi’s counsel to come up with counter arguments on police report. The respondents in the petition are Punjab government, through the chief secretary, Punjab governor, chief minister, home secretary, inspector general of police and the Lahore capital city police officer.
