Educators in Khyber district went on partial strike on Tuesday to protest against what they called injustice and callousness attitude of the provincial government towards the teaching community over non-payment of their allowances. Reportedly, Khyber Agency Teacher Association president Naseer Shah Afridi led the protest from the Government Shaheed Abdul Azam Higher Secondary School in Jamrud which culminated in front of the account office of the Khyber Agency’s education department. Meanwhile, scores of teachers of government-run schools chanted full-throat slogans in favour of their demands while carrying placards and banners. All representatives including Afridi expressed anguish over the situation and alleged that despite of the clear directives by the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on the matter, the account office has been refusing allowances to 2,800 teachers since 2016. “In the next phase of our demonstration, we will initiate protests for an indefinite period at Bab-e-Khyber, if the concerned authorities fail to pay any heed to our demand,” said Afridi.
