Unidentified men stole the official car of Malir Development Authority (MDA) Assistant Director Kamran Kalhoro from outside his residence in Defence Housing Authority (DHA). According to police officials, a group of unidentified men stole Kamran Kalhoro’s white Suzuki Potohar jeep from outside his residence and a case has been registered against them at Gizri Police Station. This is the third incident that involves the theft of a state-owned vehicle. On September 8, Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar’s official car got snatched at gunpoint from DHA’s Khyabaan-e-Bukhari area. The black Toyota Corolla was being driven by his driver when the incident occurred. A case was registered at Darakhshan police station following the incident. Two days after this incident, on September 10, Sindh Assembly Secretary Umar Farooq’s official vehicle was stolen from Sachal Goth neighbourhood. According to the Malir SSP Shiraz Nazeer, only the driver was present in the car at the time of the incident. He said that investigation was underway. Earlier, police investigation teams had claimed that they had identified vehicle-snatcher gangs. According to police, one of the two groups involved in theft of state-owned vehicles in Karachi belonged to Khairpur. He said that the other group involved in car theft managed to drive the snatched vehicles out of the metropolis. According to a report composed by Citizen Police Liaison Committee on car theft, nearly 140 four-wheelers had been either snatched or stolen from the metropolis in August and only 64 such vehicles had so far been recovered.
