LAHORE: A solo calligraphic exhibition of Adnan Baig titled The Dialogues kicked off at Ejaz Art Gallery on Saturday, drawing a large number of art lovers on the inauguration ceremony. As many as 28 huge calligraphic paintings of Adnan Baig were put on display which remains the centre of attraction for visitors. Baig is completely a self-taught artist and has no formal art education or training from any art institution as well. Baig has used a combination of colours, texts and textures, materials and torn or cut up bits of a collage, which makes it a unique fusion of abstract art. Baig is a businessman who is a law graduate and also holds a Master’s degree in Psychology. He describes himself as an artist by nature. He is the only Pakistani artist who has merged abstract art with calligraphy with a unique fusion. Speaking on the occasion about his work, Baig said, “My art is my poetic expression and that is how I define my understanding of the work I do. I have a mystical relation with abstraction. I also believe that a painting must be rhythmical, harmonious and life-like with a streak of spellbinding magic.” He loves Pablo Picasso and believes that it’s not the job of the artist to define his work but it should be left to the viewer to decide what it may be. A large number of people from different walks of life attended the event. The exhibition will remain open until September 18, 2018.
