As many as 10,000 carbonated drinks and 4,000 cans of expiry energy drinks were confiscated by the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) during a raid at the site in the area of Kasur Pura at Ravi Road on Saturday. The authority registered a case against the alleged accused in the respective police station however, he managed to escape from the crime scene after the raiding, PFA Director General Captain (r) Muhammad Usman informed. The raid was conducted on the tipoff of vigilance cell which was led by the PFA DG. He said that fake beverages were being produced and refilled in the bottles of renowned brands but PFA foiled any attempt to supply thousands of litres of these fake beverages in the market after unearthing a factory that was running the unlawful business of production on the cover of Whole Sale Distributor in Shahdara. He told that PFA has seized 15,000 litres of substandard quality of carbonated drinks and 4,000 cans of expired energy drinks along with other raw materials. The DG further said that expiry dates were also being changed. He added that PFA has started to collect the supply record of bottles and would be starting an investigation on this matter to withdraw the material from the market. Separately, the DG set ablaze 260,000 packets of gutka worth of Rs 5 million. Published in Daily Times, September 9th 2018.
