Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) has decided to conduct Pakistan’s first Industrial National Innovation Survey (INIS). The idea behind conducting the survey is to bring innovation to enhance the inclusive growth and improve competitiveness of Pakistani products in the International market. According to the EOI-PQ document available with Daily Times, the project would measure the level and extent of innovation activities in different industries and would also assess the future impact of the measures taken by the government, to promote and encourage innovation and value addition in the industry. To go through with the survey, the Pakistan Council for Science and Technology (PCST), a public sector Science and Technology Organisation of MoST, has given Expression of Interest Prequalification (EOI-PQ) proposals to interested applicant(s) for the hiring of Survey Company for conducting its first INIS. PCST would engage a data collecting firm/company to conduct a national survey of manufacturing sector for gaining insights into the industrial innovation process, and gauging extend and nature of its innovation activities. The data collecting firm will collect data of around 5000 industrial units from throughout Pakistan based on PCST instructions. The firm will provide full contact and GPS coordinates of the industry to PCST. The data collecting firm will also provide the ‘action plan’ for data collection, including sample frame, sample design, progress monitoring indicators, etc. to PCST. The PCST said that Pakistan Vision 2025 is the national development agenda of Pakistan for the next decade, but in order to achieve the targets mentioned in the vision, it is really important to encourage innovation and value addition at the firm level. For that, Pakistan not only has to take advantage of the new growth opportunities but also has to be part of technological growth by the inclusion of innovation and Research and development (R&D), it added.
