Sir: I remember when the PPP was in power back during their tenure between 2008 and 2013. There were many problems with their government, with the space available to me here not enough to list all of them. Yet, for the residents of Karachi, their tenure did bring a little respite in the load-shedding that has affected Pakistan and all of its regions, for the past decade or so. My relatives from Lahore would visit the city, and grumble about the long hours they had to wait every day, just waiting for the chance to turn their television on for a few hours, or charge their phones and laptops till the next power outage struck. I did not seem to have a lot of sympathy for their plight, however, the current state of affairs in Karachi has made me realize how heartless of being back then. This is because, over the past few weeks, load shedding has become almost unbearable in Karachi, and it sometimes feels like you go to sleep in darkness, and wake up in it as well. UPS’s don’t survive, generators cost thousands of rupees a day to function, and the heat wave just does not let up. In this state how are the people of this great city supposed to function? Conditions like these are capable of turning anybody mad. Please stop torturing us like this, and find a solution to this grave issue as soon as possible.
