JACOBABAD: A 30-foot breach in the embankment of Mirza Shakh (irrigation canal) near Mubarakpur town of Jacobabad submerged hundreds of acres of agriculture land of two villages and the adjoining region on Saturday. Due to constant erosion, the embankment breached on Saturday morning, said the locals and attributed the cause to substandard repair and renovation work besides lack of departmental inspection and supervision. Meanwhile, farmers of the villages informed the Irrigation authorities but they failed to respond effectively, and so they had to prevent the further loss on a self-help basis. However, farmers suffered a loss of millions of rupees, and demanded help from the district administration to recover. Published in Daily Times, August 12th 2018.
