A mob of right wing activists stopped independent candidate Jibran Nasir from conducting his door-to-door campaign and holding his corner meeting in city’s Bazarta Line area late on Friday night. Jibran Nasir, who is campaigning in the elections from PS-111 and NA-247, was going to the Bazarta Line area along with his team for a corner meeting when the incident happened. According to Mohammad Mehdi, an activist campaigning for Jibran, a crowd of almost 70-100 people reached the designated venue for the corner meeting ahead of Jibran Nasir’s arrival and alleged that Jibran Nasir was supporting the Ahmadi community. “They then proceeded to tear down the campaign banners and posters we had put up in the area,” added Mohammad Mehdi. Jibran Nasir, however, remained safe as protesters were unable to harm him. Talha, Jibran’s team member said that a group of enraged protesters had assaulted them and resorted to stone-pelting,which eventually damaged some of the cars parked nearby. “The violent protestors beat us up,” he added. While talking to the media later, Jibran Nasir said that he did not understand what kind of training the extremist mindset was giving to the youth. “We need to give laptop and books to youngsters instead of teaching them to resort to violence,” said Jibran before adding that nobody should misguide the youth.
