KWSB pumping station site allotted to an employee in violation of rules

KARACHI: Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) in sheer violation of entity’s by-laws has allotted a site of water boosting pumping station to its one in-service employee, Shoiab Tughlaq, Director Land and Estate of KWSB revealed.

The site measuring 200 square yards situated in block 17, Gulshan-e-Iqbal has been abandoned since four years due to the direct better flow of water supply on the ground on better gravity of land.

“There was no need left using this water boosting pumping station as water supply maintains it own flow after taking corrective measures in this regard”, he maintained.

Under the KWSB rules, no site of Water Board under use or not can be allotted for any other purpose.

On query, Chanzeb Khan, Director Administration ad Accommodation KWSB remarked that he was unaware of this development and would inquire into the matter to ascertain the facts whether site has been allotted or not.

“May be the site in question has been given on temporary basis to KWSB official”, he said.

We have already residential areas where employees of KWSB are residing after fulfilling official requirements, he informed.

The KWSB has already issued notices to 40 officials of Karachi Development Authority to vacate the residential areas of entity and moreover more than 200 families, not belonging to KWSB and enjoying residential facility have also been directed to vacate the houses in different housing sites of KWSB, he added.

After completion of departmental survey, KWSB will also take action against those officials holding more than one house, rented out or without allotment, he added.

Now we have planned to deduct nominal rent on giving accommodation to officials depending on the size of the residence, he said.

Ansar Ahmad, Executive Engineer KWSB of Gulshan-e-Iqbal area has confirmed that the site of water pumping station has been allotted to Ghazanfar Ali, Accounts Officer COD Filter Plant four months back.

This same site in past had also been given to Zahid Hussain, private secretary to Chairman KWSB but he did not use site for residential purpose, he informed.

Meanwhile to be housing colony of including Hub Dam, Dmlotee Well, COD Filter Plants, Pipri Filter Plant, Pipri old Filter Plant North East Karachi (NEK) (old) Filter Plant, NEK (New) Filter Plant, Hub Filter Plant, Gharo Filter Plants other side installation and land of KWSB.
