Sindh Police devise security plan for upcoming polls

Published on: June 26, 2018 2:12 AM

LARKANA: Larkana’s recently appointed deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Javed Ahmed Riaz on Monday affirmed to devise a plan for supporting free, fair, transparent and peaceful upcoming general election-2018.

Reportedly, while talking to the media at a local press club, he along with newly appointed Larkana’s senior superintendent of police (SSP) Shabir Ahmed Sethar, revealed that he have conducted meetings with SSPs of five districts who would ensure peace and tranquility during voting in the polling stations.

Furthermore, he claimed that he would hold a peace parley between candidates of political parties, who are contesting elections against each other in their respective constituencies.

“A reinforcement of five to six thousand police officers would be called to safeguard the polling process,” he said while vowing to ensure increased transparency during upcoming polls than elections held in the years 2008 and 2013.

DIG Javed claimed a risk of terror attack, and said that major events are more vulnerable to militant attacks and so police needs to formulate a foolproof security plan.

“Larkana holds political importance in a sense that a large segment of bureaucracy belongs to Larkana including Chief Justice of Sindh High Court,” he said while asserting that police would remain impartial during the polling process.

“If a complaint is lodged against any officer, a stern action would be taken against him following rules and constitution,” he vowed.

Moreover, he said that the day he assumed the charge as DIG, about 25 victims visited him for filing their complaints while they wept narrating criminalities.

He ordered all SSPs to resolve issues confronted by the poor masses on priority basis.

“People may contact me around the clock on my mobile number, if their complaints are not addressed,” he said.

He revealed that ‘a vigilant eye’ is being kept over Sindh-Balochistan border.

Meanwhile, SSP Shabir Sethar said that as many as 140 polling stations are ‘sensitive’ where more officers would be deployed to maintain peace and security.

He pledged that maximum security measures would be adopted for the protection of all candidates.
