Sir, it was sad to see the northern and western parts of India being hit by the recent dust storm. This is a result of the dry spell that is being said to have affected many parts of South Asia, due to the lack of rain and rising temperatures. While we all will welcome the monsoon with a big smile, we can’t fault the sun too much for shining so brightly these days. It does after all provide our world with the energy it needs to survive. It gives life to our entire eco system and the current heat wave is more the fault of humans themselves, than the poor sun. Human beings are also the main cause for the water scarcity that is threatening life on earth. Things like deforestation and the exploitation of our natural resources are slowly and surely killing the planet and it is high time that we do something about it. We need to fight for our survival and for that we need to start thinking about humanity’s future. Climate change and the impending chaos it will cause is the biggest threat facing us today, and we need to forget about our differences, whether political, national, religious or ethnic and come together to fight this threat. Laws and regulations need to be drawn up and every citizen on this planet needs to vow to do everything in their power to help in the preservation of earth. This contribution can come in many ways. Recycling, using minimal water, moving to renewable energy resources and even driving electric cars. The great gifts of life are present on this planet. Oxygen, plants, energy and water-these are all essential for the growth and development of humanity and we have found all of them in abundance on our little rock in the Milky Way. As yet no other planet like earth has been found, and for all we know, this might be the only one like it. Why not save it from impending doom, at least for our future generations.
