With Eidul Fitr around the corner, the Eid shopping has reached its peak with scores of citizens thronging different markets and makeshift stalls selling bangles, shoes and cosmetics. Several bazaars and markets, including MM Alam Road, Kareem Market, Ichhra, Anarkali, Liberty Market, Township Bazaar, , Sadar Main Bazaar, Moon Market, Yateem Khana and other shopping, were seen brimming with shoppers of all age groups. Every year, the last ten days of Ramazan see people come out in droves for Eid shopping, with some visiting upscale markets and others (middle-class) visiting makeshift stalls selling products at cheap rates. Rampant encroachment in markets is another thing shoppers have to deal with, besides bargaining with shopkeepers, during Eid shopping. A massive turn out of shoppers coupled with encroachments make it difficult for commuters to reach their destinations on time during the last ten days. Talking to Daily Times, a commuter who remained stuck for hours in a traffic snarl near Karim Market on Thursday, said that traffic police had failed to ensure smooth flow of traffic on city roads. He said that the authorities concerned should have prepared a plan to deal with massive turn out of vehicles and shoppers. Earlier, the City Traffic Police had unveiled a comprehensive traffic plan to ensure smooth flow of traffic. Under the plan, over 2,000 traffic wardens would be deployed to monitor traffic in the city on Eid days. Published in Daily Times, June 15th 2018.
