Sir: Ramzan is a holy month for the Muslim community. During this time period, Muslims are focused on fasting and other acts of worship. However, there are numerous factors which make this difficult. One of these is the weather. The temperature in Karachi has now reached 43oC, which is unbearable for the citizens while fasting. Numerous people are suffering from dehydration, eye infection, and kidney or urine infection due to less intake of water and more sweating. The heat has also made it very difficult for people to go out and do their jobs, especially those people whose jobs involve being under direct sunlight. People who use public transport, cycles or motorcycles are also at high risk of getting a heatstroke. K-electric has not made anything easier. Even during these extremely hot days, people are facing power cuts and load shedding during Sehri and Iftaari. This has also made it very difficult for university students to attend their classes and give exams. I would like to request that the concerned authorities, including Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and K-electric to please attempt to resolve Karachi’s power issues and make arrangements for people vulnerable to heat stroke.
