LAHORE: Employees of Pakistan Institute of Fashion & Design (PIFD) have demanded PIFD Vice Chancellor Hina Tayyaba Khalil to resign from her post immediately, Daily Times learnt on Tuesday. According to a letter available with Daily Times, around 86 employees of PIFD belonging to different departments including lecturers, assistant professors, associate professors, teaching assistants, assistant registrar, technician, laboratoy incharge, accountant, carpenter and clerks have written a letter to the VC, demanding her to resign immediately for several reasons. The employees also sent the copy of letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan, Lahore High Court CJ, Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman, National Accountability Bureau chairman, Secretary to President of Pakistan, Secretary to Commerce Division Islamabad, Secretary to Establishment Division Islamabad, President Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association and several PIFD officials. The resolution/letter put on serious allegations on Hina Tayyaba including misusing her post of acting VC, illegally using titles and other things. The letter claimed that to save the already victimised employees from further confrontation and resentment, it is hoped that this demand will not be retaliated with further intimidating letters from “you and your proxies”. It is, however, assured that a timely announcement of withdrawal from “your side will be perceived as a voluntary resignation and reciprocated with a befitting farewell to honor the time you have give to this organisations”, the letter added. The employees further alleged that Tayyaba had been enjoying over 16 years of administering originally the Pakistan School of Fashion Design (PSFD) and later PIFD in various executive positions. However, during all these years, “you exercised your authority to prolong, extend and grow your personal agenda and career without contributing towards the welfare and retention of the faculty and staff of PIFD who are the actual backbone supporting its growth, the resolution said adding that it is a historical fact that many employees had been forced to resign and leave against their will you have remained the only constant denominator”. They also accused her for misusing her tenure as acting VC by saying, “You used your tenure as the Acting Vice Chancellor through 2011 to 2016 to secure the position of Vice Chancellor by influencing selection criteria and Search Committee however the welfare of PIFD employees has never been your priority.” Another allegation was, “You have prefixed the title of Professor to your name since 2011, without carrying out any substantial teaching activity except having a visiting faculty role in 2001.” Published in Daily Times, May 9th 2018.
