Sir: Pakistan’s first Super Kabaddi League (SKL) tournament is currently taking place in Lahore. This is a significant step for the revival of this traditional Punjabi game. Once upon a time this game was very popular at the village and district levels, and people enjoyed it a lot. But in years past, due to the increasing popularity of other sports, it lost its significance. Still, Pakistan might have the best kabaddi players in the subcontinent. People still like to play Kabaddi, eventhough they don’t get much encouragement to do so. The SKL isn’t just significant for reviving Kabaddi at home but also to promote it abroad. Teams from other countries are participating in most SKL events. It has potential to be popular worldwide, because it involves the use of mental tactics and martial arts skills. This noticeable step will lead to more awareness of Kabaddi in the younger generation. People should promote this game as they promote popular sports like cricket and football. Other provinces should also have their own Kabaddi leagues. FAHEELA RAZA Karachi Published in Daily Times, May 7th 2018.
