KARACHI: In a major development in the minor girl’s rape-cum-murder case in Orangi Town, the police investigators on Sunday claimed to have arrested the fourth suspect involved in the incident. Police officials said that the accused arrested recently was the son of another accused already under interrogation. The police investigators also claimed to have recovered material from the crime scene including clothes, a charpoy and a rope used in the incident, adding that the police recovered the stuff from the main suspect’s home on the information provided by him. Police officials said that they have also collected his samples for DNA profiling. Seven- year-old Rabia, a resident of Baloch Para in Orangi Town, had gone missing on Sunday, April 15, after she left home to play in the area as per daily routine, according to her family. Her body was later found from a garbage dump in MPR Colony in Manghopir. Police recovered the minor’s decomposed body from a garbage dump on Monday evening after her family had lodged a complaint. The police then arrested three nominated suspects. After the news of the incident went viral in the area, a large number of people got together and held a protest over the incident. During a clash between protesters and security personnel, a man was shot, and he died on the spot. The police later registered a case against 150 unidentified miscreants including about a dozen workers affiliated with a political party. Published in Daily Times, April 23rd 2018.
