SHIKARPUR: Several notables and renowned poets on Saturday paid tribute to Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai and Syed Sardar Ahmed Shah Lakiyari, the prominent Sufi poet, during a programme held at Sabza-e-Zar lawn. Syed Mehboob Ali Shah Lakiyari, brother of Syed Sardar Ali Shah Lakiyari, famous writer Nasim Bukhari, Anwar Soomro, Muhabat Bablani, Muhammad Jurial Sangi and others were present at the occasion. They said that Sufism can eradicate extremism interlinked with religion. Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, Syed Sardar Ahmed Shah Lakiyari and other mystics had played their prominent role for unity and harmony in the society. They prevented discrimination and their poetry infused peace, tranquility and brotherhood amongst the people of Sindh. Furthermore, they said that love transforms human as ‘a complete being’ and without love ‘a being’ is incomplete. Love, then, draws attention for the welfare of society. The speakers refuted the idea that Sufism has been perished. They emphasised that Sufism couldn’t be interpreted correctly and so the expectations weren’t fulfilled. Extremism is a matter of grave concern for writers, poets and intellectuals. They are persuading people towards Sufism for the welfare of the society. Later, the Sanwal Marvi group, Syed Rasheed Ahmed Shah, Ghulam Abbas Babar and Ghulam Yasin Bhutto sang the songs of mystics. The audience clapped their performance. People attended the program and vowed that they would spread the message of love, peace, tranquility and brotherhood. Published in Daily Times, April 8th 2018.
