DADU: A renowned research scholar, Meritorious Prof Dr Mujeeb-u-ddin Memon vowed the Federal and Provincial governments to boost the agricultural sector and improve the economy of the country by following his advice based upon research. “It was a matter of utmost importance to train farmers and growers with innovative methods for the development of agricultural sector,” Prof Dr Mujeeb-u-ddin Memon said. He was interviewed by Daily Times on “Current challenges being faced by farmers in agriculture and research by universities particularly Sindh Agriculture University” He said that lack of irrigation water has been a major issue in many parts of the country, particularly in Sindh. New technology can be adapted which requires less water consumption by crops, vegetation and fruit gardens. Due to climate change, water resources are decreasing that affects agricultural sector. Production of seasonal crops has reduced that has changed the pattern of crops. He shared his successful experience of new technology at Thar, Kohistan and Kachho that consumes less water. Currently, Dr Memon is serving as Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences at Sakrand and Vice Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) – the oldest agriculture university in Pakistan situated in Tando Jam. Since 2014, he has been engaged to upgrade university as mainstream of Higher Educational Institutes are. Dr. Memon started his academic career as a Lecturer (BPS-17) in Mechanical Engineering Department at Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET), in August 1988. Thereafter he earned Quaid-e-Azam merit Scholarship and completed PhD from world reputed Thermo-fluid Mechanics Research Center (TFMRC) of Sussex University UK. After successful completion of PhD, he was appointed as Associate Professor (BPS-19) in 1995, Professor (BPS-20, 21) in 2000. In 2013, he became Meritorious Professor (BPS-22). Dr Memon has actively maintained scholarly interest in Mechanical Engineering issues. He is author of 52 research papers and supervised three PhD scholars with notable honour to produce first PhD in Mechanical Engineering Department at MUET in Jamshoro. He had presented research work during international conferences in many countries. He has been invited as Guest at numerous national and international conferences, seminars and workshops. Dr. Memon was also appointed as a Founder Principal of a constituent engineering college of MUET named as Mehran University College of Engineering and Technology. During his tenure, college earned its reputation, academic progress including commencement of first Master’s Degree Program and signing of MoU(s) with three Malaysian Universities. Besides, student discipline, development of the endowment fund to the tune of Rs. 500 million, quality appointment of faculty and staff and acquiring zero accreditation from Pakistan Engineering Council were acquired.
