LAHORE: During the hearing of a writ petition against horse trading in Senate elections 2018 in Lahore High Court, Justice Shahid Karim has summoned the ECP to present its response on April 2. A petition was submitted by Ex-Secretary ECP Kunwar Muhammad Dilshad asking the Court to annul the result of the Senate Elections 2018. Petitioner’s Counsel Advocate Bakir Hussain added that the ECP has taken notice of horse trading in the elections and opposition parties will be presenting evidence against members alleged of horse-trading to the Election Commission. The petitioner has appealed the court to suspend notification to the successful Senators until it reaches a final verdict. It was a failure on part of the ECP to put a stop to the act of horse-trading during the elections. The petitioner has also questioned the electoral reforms in Election act 2017 declaring it ineffective in catering the needs of an effective, fair, free and transparent electoral system in the country.
