Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan, on Friday, Tweeted that the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) was ahead of all other provinces in promoting women empowerment. The PTI chief added that women living in rural areas of Chitral were now given royalty in the forests and “this was just the start”. He called it a “historic moment”, claiming that it was the first time women in the country were being given such opportunities. Previously, only men of local communities had a share in the royalty for forests. However, after holding several meetings with the women councillors and local government officials in the area, the initiative was enacted. In another Tweet, Imran Khan lauded the provincial government for its efforts. “Women empowerment in KP moves another step forward. Royalty from sustainable forestry to be distributed directly to rural women for the first time ever in Chitral – will be followed soon by Malakand,” he Tweeted. Khan also lashed out at the bureaucracy for protesting against former Lahore Development Authority Director General Ahad Cheema’s arrest in the Ashiana Housing Scheme scandal. Expressing his views on Twitter, Khan said that was shameful how the bureaucracy belonging to PAS had chosen to protest over the accountability and arrest of Ahad Cheema, who was the front man of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He reiterated that the group, under the supervision of CM Punjab, thinks that they are above the law. The PTI chief said that he appeared before the court to prove his innocence as he believes in the supremacy of law and accountability. “What are the bureaucrats scared of if they have not indulged in or abetted any corruption?” he questioned.
