JACOBABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday criticised the Sindh government for failing to address problems facing the people of the province. Addressing a public gathering at Numaish Ground, Jacobabad, the PM said that he was dismayed over the poor performance of the Sindh government. “The people of Jacobabad face a lot of difficulties. They have been deprived of their basic amenities, including clean drinking water, education, healthcare facilities and development work,” he said. “During our government’s tenure in 1991, we had restored peace and tranquility to rural and urban Sindh and started an operation against dacoits,” he said, adding that the current government had also taken bold steps for restoring peace in Karachi as well as other parts of Sindh. The prime minister said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) would win the next general elections on the basis of its performance. “The people will reject those who just raise hollow slogans and do nothing for the progress and development of masses and the country,” he said. He said that the government had started a number of projects in the communication and energy sector to meet the demands of the new era. “Energy projects will help overcome power load-shedding issue by next year,” he said. The prime minister announced a healthcare package for Jacobabad, including the issuance of healthcare cards for local residents. “The people of Jacobabad will not have to go to far-flung areas for getting treatment. They will be able to avail free treatment at private and government hospitals near their homes,” he said. He announced Rs 1 billion for the construction of a hospital, a vocational training for women, development work and 100 electricity transformers in Jacobabad. The PM also announced new gas and electricity connections for the district. Minister for Railways Saad Rafique said that prime minister was committed to the welfare and uplift of the people of the province. “The PML-N government established peace in Karachi by taking action against terrorists and dacoits. The PPP government has completely failed to deliver in the province,” he said. Ellahi Bux Soomro, Marvi Memon, Asif Karmani, Nihal Hashmi, Shah Muhammad Shah, Jam Mashooque Ali, Chaudhry Tariq, Sardar Sajjad Hussain Buledi, Dr Qamar Rajpar, Dr Bashir Ahmed Brohi, and other leaders were also present on the occasion.
