KARACHI: The first day of the QMobile Hum Showcase 2017 was held in the city at a local hotel on Thursday. There were eight showcases that were presented in total. Here’s our take on the distinct collections. Jazib Qamar’s Jazib Qamar’s Bizarre was for the modern man who opts for edginess which is reflected in his wardrobe. It was a bold and a multi-seasonal capsule collection based in hues of black, silver and grey with hand-embroidered embellishments. Nomi Ansari Nomi Ansari opened Day 1 with A Night In Paradise. Featuring bright neon yellows and trendy cuts, we saw a lot of young and joyful designs. Fine detailing with silhouettes like peplums, voluminous skirts and classic men’s suits could be seen. We loved the exquisite ensemble for its uniqueness and the fact that it made a statement on how to stand out from the crowd. Wardha Saleem Next up was Wardha Saleem with her collection which was dedicated to her mother. The collection was based on separates designed for a sophisticated woman. Russian folk and floral motifs were incorporated through intricate embroideries, patchwork and luxurious prints on pure silks. Inaaya Inaaya by Naushaba Brohi was one of the stronger collections of the night, where trendiness met sophistication at all levels. Titled Tabeer, we loved how satin and silk were used to create pieces which were summer-ready and in tune for formal dinners. Black tops, palazzos, knee-length skirts and off-shoulder blouses were the key highlights. Deepak & Fahad with Momina Teli Next up was a showcase by Grazia Pakistan that featured Deepak & Fahad along with Momina Teli. Titled Deception, Deepak & Fahad created a rich collection based in intricate hand embroidery, digital and screen prints as well as patchwork. Momina Teli’s Iris was based in a colour palette of black, white, navy and nude shades. A lot of layers and silhouettes highlighting kimonos, kaftans and maxi dresses were showcased. Al Zohaib Textiles Al Zohaib Textiles featuring Christina Senter in collaboration with Maurizio Boscheri was next with a collection titled Dedicated to Women. The collection featured feathers and Swarovski fused in skirts, straight line-shaped dresses, perfect details and colourful silk trims. Munib Nawaz Menswear designer Munib Nawaz was up next with The Phantom. The colours and the textures were extensions of night colours and the embellishments were based on Pakistan’s rich heritage as well as contemporary designs to suit the modern man. Faraz Manan Award-winning designer Faraz Manan closed Day 1 with his collection titled Mirage. A lot of silhouettes and layerings were used. The collection centred on clever detailing of interesting shapes, metallic hangings and signature fringes with bold necklines and a combination of flowing, tapered and edgy silhouettes. French silks, lame, brocade and organza was used in pastels, blues, nudes gold and grey.
