LAHORE: Pakistan-like other countries across globe-is observing Human Rights Day 2017 today but situation here demands emergency measurements. Punjab Pakistan’s largest province in terms of population with 110 million people-has only allocated Rs 800 illion for whole province or Rs 7.30/resident in fiscal year 2017-18. As per details acquired, several projects have been closed while remaining face grave financial issues. Situation is far worse in Murad-led Sindh where the provincial government has allocated merely Rs20.75 million in FY 2017-18. Owing to criminal negligence of officials, construction work on three projects initiated in 2013 is still pending. Meanwhile, as much as 236 cases of human rights violations were reported in Khattak-led KPK with Abbottabad on top. Situation is alarmingly dangerous in Balochistan where Zehri-led provincial government did not allocate a single penny in the aforementioned regard. Published in Daily Times, December 11th 2017.
