Rubio says Iran to pay ‘heavy price’ without deal

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned Iran would face severe consequences unless it agreed to a new deal. He said Tehran was already experiencing major military and economic setbacks. The remarks could influence ongoing regional diplomacy and future negotiations.

Rubio spoke on the sidelines of the ASEAN conference in Manila. According to his statement, Iran would continue to “pay a very heavy price” if it refused to reach an agreement. He described the current pressure as both military and economic.

Moreover, Rubio claimed Iran’s defence industrial base had been significantly weakened. He alleged the country was losing radar systems and missile launchers every night. Additionally, he said Iran had suffered billions of dollars in damages.

Rubio also accused Tehran of repeatedly failing to honour previous agreements. He said Iran either broke agreements or attempted to change their terms after reaching them. However, Iranian officials have consistently rejected similar accusations in the past.

The comments reflect continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran over nuclear and regional security issues. Therefore, the latest warning may further complicate diplomatic efforts. The dispute also carries broader implications for regional stability and international markets.

Meanwhile, Rubio said Iran’s economy was facing increasing pressure alongside reported military losses. According to his remarks, sustained economic strain could continue without a negotiated settlement. The United States has repeatedly urged Iran to return to meaningful talks.

The latest statement comes as diplomatic efforts over Iran’s nuclear programme remain uncertain. However, no immediate breakthrough has been announced by either side. Future negotiations will likely determine whether tensions ease or continue to escalate.
