Jennifer Garner returns for nostalgic 13 Going on 30 reboot

Published on: July 22, 2026 3:41 PM

Jennifer Garner and Judy Greer have been spotted filming Netflix’s reboot of 13 Going on 30, signaling their return more than two decades after the beloved romantic comedy first won audiences. The actors appeared on set alongside Emily Bader, who takes over the lead role of Jenna Rink in the new version. Their appearance has fueled excitement among longtime fans eagerly waiting to see how the classic story will be reimagined.

New set photos show Garner, Greer, and Bader filming scenes together at a Santa Monica location while dressed in character costumes. Emily Bader now leads the story as Jenna Rink, the teenager whose magical journey transforms her into a glamorous yet confused 30-year-old woman. Meanwhile, Garner originally played Jenna in the 2004 film, while Greer portrayed her memorable rival, Lucy “Tom-Tom” Wyman.

Earlier, Garner hinted that she might only make a brief visit to the production while speaking about the project in a recent interview. However, the latest filming images suggest she has a much larger role than expected. Although Netflix has not officially confirmed whether Garner and Greer are reprising their original characters, the production continues to keep major story details under wraps.

The reboot is directed by Brett Haley, who recently found success with Netflix’s People We Met On Vacation, another film starring Emily Bader. Logan Lerman joins Bader in leading roles, while Taylor Zakhar Perez, Jessica Alba, Adeline Rudolph, Taylor Ortega, Tim Meadows, and Dan Bucatinsky round out the supporting cast. The impressive lineup has further raised expectations for the highly anticipated remake.

Released in 2004, the original 13 Going on 30 became one of the most memorable romantic comedies of its era and earned nearly $96 million at the global box office. Directed by Gary Winick and co-starring Mark Ruffalo, the film developed a loyal fan base and remains a favorite among Millennial audiences. The upcoming reboot now aims to introduce the beloved story to a new generation while celebrating its enduring legacy.
