Low-level flooding has been reported at several points along the Indus and Chenab rivers as water levels increased at major barrages and headworks, according to the Flood Forecasting Division.

The division reported low-level flooding at Tarbela and Kalabagh on the Indus River, while similar conditions were observed at Head Khanki on the Chenab River. Authorities are monitoring river flows and water levels at various locations to assess the situation.
According to the latest update, water flows in the Indus River from Chashma to Kotri remain within monitored levels. The division also stated that flows in the Jhelum, Ravi, Sutlej and Kabul rivers, along with major tributary streams connected to the Chenab and Ravi rivers, are currently normal.
The Flood Forecasting Division said Tarbela Dam is currently 61 per cent filled, while Mangla Dam stands at 41 per cent storage capacity. Officials noted that water levels in both major reservoirs are lower compared to the same period last year.
On the corresponding date last year, Tarbela Dam was filled to around 80 per cent of its capacity, while Mangla Dam had reached 51 per cent storage. The difference indicates comparatively lower water storage levels this year.
Authorities continue to monitor rainfall patterns, river flows and reservoir positions as part of flood management efforts. The current low-level flood situation has prompted relevant departments to remain alert, particularly in areas located near rivers and vulnerable waterways.
Pakistan’s river system is heavily dependent on seasonal rainfall and glacier melt, with water levels often fluctuating during the monsoon season. The Flood Forecasting Division regularly issues updates to help government agencies and communities prepare for possible flood-related risks.

Officials have advised concerned departments to maintain preparedness and closely observe changing conditions, while no major flood situation has been reported in other major rivers so far.
