The Punjab National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) arrested four alleged cyber blackmailers during a province-wide crackdown on online blackmail, cyber harassment, and fake social media activities in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Multan. According to an NCCIA spokesperson, the arrested suspects were identified as Rana Hassan Ejaz from Lahore, Asad Abbas and Muhammad Younas from Faisalabad, and Tasawar Abbas from Multan. The spokesperson said mobile phones, SIM cards, and other digital devices were recovered during the raids and taken into custody for forensic examination. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly created fake social media accounts using the identities of victims, particularly women, to defame them. They are also accused of issuing threats through WhatsApp, sharing objectionable content, and attempting to blackmail victims to exert psychological pressure and, in some cases, extort money. The spokesperson said investigations were underway to identify the suspects’ possible accomplices and trace their digital networks. Punjab NCCIA Director Operations Muhammad Ali Waseem said the agency would continue indiscriminate action against those involved in online harassment, cyber blackmail, and other cybercrimes.
