The historic final was played at New York New Jersey Stadium, where Spain delivered a disciplined and attacking performance against Lionel Messi’s Argentina. Despite Argentina’s determined resistance, Spain maintained pressure throughout the match before finding the breakthrough in extra time.

The decisive goal came from Torres during the second half of extra time, securing Spain’s second FIFA Men’s World Cup crown and ending Argentina’s reign as world champions.

The victory also earned Spain a unique place in football history. Having previously won the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Spain now holds both the men’s and women’s world titles simultaneously, becoming the first nation ever to achieve the feat.

Spain’s triumph reflects the country’s sustained investment in football development across both men’s and women’s competitions. In recent years, Spanish football has enjoyed remarkable success at both club and international levels, producing a new generation of talented players capable of competing at the highest stage.

The 2026 World Cup victory further cements Spain’s status among football’s elite nations and marks another milestone in its rich sporting history. Fans across Spain celebrated the achievement as the national team added a second men’s World Cup trophy to its collection.

For Argentina, the defeat ended its title defence despite a determined campaign that saw the reigning champions reach another World Cup final. While the result was disappointing for the South American side, the team remained among the tournament’s standout performers.
