Western allies will meet in Paris to strengthen Ukraine’s air defences as Russian missile attacks continue to threaten cities and critical infrastructure. At least 25 leaders, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, are expected to discuss additional military support, future security guarantees and a common diplomatic approach. The meeting follows renewed Russian strikes that killed several people and increased pressure on Kyiv’s already stretched air-defence systems.

A major focus of the talks will be securing more advanced air-defence equipment, including additional Patriot missile interceptors and faster deployment of the Franco-Italian SAMP-T system. European leaders will also explore plans to jointly develop new anti-ballistic missile technology with Ukrainian defence companies. These efforts aim to reduce Ukraine’s dependence on existing systems while strengthening its domestic defence industry.
Meanwhile, Germany has agreed to finance the purchase of 50,000 Ukrainian-made attack drones in a deal valued at about €90 million. The drones will be produced by Ukrainian manufacturer SkyFall and equipped with advanced software that allows them to continue tracking moving targets even if communication with operators is disrupted. Officials said some units have already reached Ukraine, while the remaining deliveries will continue throughout the year.

At the same time, Ukraine has expanded long-range drone operations inside Russia, targeting oil facilities, weapons factories and other strategic sites to weaken Moscow’s military capabilities. Ukrainian forces now conduct thousands of drone missions daily, making unmanned systems a central part of the country’s defence strategy. Western governments have increasingly recognised the growing importance of drone technology in modern warfare.
Leaders will also discuss new measures to reduce Russia’s ability to finance the war by tightening restrictions on its energy revenues and limiting military supply chains. Discussions are expected to include additional sanctions, action against Russia’s shadow oil tanker fleet and plans for future multinational military cooperation. French President Emmanuel Macron is also expected to announce new defence initiatives and joint military exercises to reinforce long-term support for Ukraine.
