Rainfall was recorded in several parts of Lahore, including Nishtar Town, Johar Town, Gulberg, Lawrence Road, Mazang, Mall Road, Lakshmi Chowk and Nabha Road, bringing pleasant weather and much-needed relief from the heat.
According to official rainfall data, Farrukhabad received the highest rainfall at 18.2 mm, followed by Saggian with 17.4 mm, Tajpura with 14.6 mm, and Pani Wala Tala in the Walled City with 12.4 mm.
Lahore Commissioner Nauman Yousaf directed teams from WASA, the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to remain in the field. He also instructed all Assistant Commissioners to personally supervise drainage operations in their respective tehsils, ensure major roads and underpasses remain clear, and keep teams from the Central Business District (CBD) and Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) on high alert.
The commissioner further ordered that disposal stations affected by power outages should immediately switch to generators and that all pumping stations remain fully operational. WASA Town Directors have also been assigned to monitor the situation continuously.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Motorway Police said rain was reported at several locations on the M-2 Motorway between Kot Momin and Thokar Niaz Baig. Rainfall also continued on the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway from the Main Toll Plaza to Sambrial.
The spokesperson added that cloudy conditions were also observed on the M-3 Motorway between Faizpur and Nankana. As wet roads have become slippery, motorists have been advised to drive carefully, reduce speed and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. Drivers were also urged to avoid unnecessary overtaking, speeding and sudden braking during rainy conditions.
Motorists have further been advised to ensure their headlights and windscreen wipers are functioning properly, follow lane discipline, wear seat belts at all times, and contact the Motorway Police Helpline 130 immediately in case of any emergency.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has placed all relevant departments on high alert in view of the onset of monsoon rains and directed commissioners, deputy commissioners and field officers across the province to remain fully prepared for any emergency.
The chief minister said that with the monsoon season having begun in Punjab, all concerned officers and staff must remain vigilant, adding that there was no room for negligence or irresponsibility.
She directed the authorities to ensure the immediate drainage of rainwater and ordered continuous monitoring of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) operations. She also instructed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Control Room and District Emergency Operation Centres across the province to remain fully alert.
The chief minister ordered Rescue 1122, WASA and other emergency services to keep their personnel and machinery on standby. She also directed the authorities to ensure the swift drainage of water from low-lying areas and water accumulation at identified choking points.
CM Punjab ordered continuous monitoring of stormwater drains and nullahs, directing officials to ensure that rainwater did not remain stagnant in urban areas.
