Indian actress Gauhar Khan triggered widespread discussion on social media after calling Argentina captain Lionel Messi a “loser” following Argentina’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Egypt in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16. Her remarks quickly gained attention as football fans reacted strongly to both the match and her opinion.

Argentina secured a place in the quarter-finals after producing a remarkable comeback against Egypt on Tuesday. The South American side recovered from a two-goal deficit during the closing stages and scored three unanswered goals to complete an unforgettable turnaround. Consequently, the thrilling finish became one of the tournament’s biggest talking points.

Soon after the match, Gauhar Khan reshared a video from another content creator on Instagram and openly criticised Messi’s performance. She wrote, “What a loser, messy not Messi. Actor of the saddest order,” while the original video described the contest as “the saddest moment in football history.” Her comments immediately spread across social media platforms.

Meanwhile, the closing moments of the game sparked fresh controversy among football supporters, with many questioning several refereeing decisions and accusing Argentina of showing unsporting behaviour. Despite the criticism, the result stood, allowing Argentina to progress to the quarter-finals, where they will face Switzerland in the next stage.

Gauhar Khan’s reaction has divided football fans, with some supporting her criticism while others defended Messi and Argentina’s comeback victory. As online debate continues, the dramatic encounter remains one of the most discussed matches of the FIFA World Cup, highlighting both the excitement and emotions that surround knockout football.
