According to Indian media reports, Sharma is receiving treatment at Manipal Hospital Dhakuria in Kolkata. Actress Sudipa Chatterjee shared a statement on social media on behalf of the actor’s family, confirming that his condition had deteriorated following the incident.

The family said the actor was speaking with members of the local technical crew near a densely wooded area after filming had wrapped up when he was bitten by an insect. Initially, Sharma believed the bite was minor and did not seek immediate medical attention.

According to the statement, around six hours after the incident, he began experiencing severe pain in his right leg. Despite his worsening condition, he boarded a flight to Kolkata. During the journey, he reportedly developed a high fever, and his health continued to decline, prompting immediate hospitalisation upon arrival.

Doctors treating the actor said the infection spread from his toes to his knee, causing extensive swelling and large blisters on his leg. They also reported that Sharma experienced breathing difficulties and remains under close medical observation. Physicians warned that complications from the infection could increase the risk of a blood clot, which could become life-threatening if it travels to the lungs.
