At least 13 people were killed and 66 others injured in an explosion at Qatar’s Ras Laffan LNG Complex, one of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas facilities. The victims reportedly included workers from Pakistan and India. The Ras Laffan LNG explosion has raised concerns about safety at one of the region’s most important energy installations.
According to reports, the explosion occurred while facilities that had been shut down following an Iranian attack in March were being brought back into operation. Emergency teams responded quickly to the scene, and the injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
In a statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Energy confirmed that 13 people lost their lives and 66 were wounded in the incident. The ministry added that the plant’s export capacity has not been affected and that there is no environmental threat resulting from the explosion.
Speaking to journalists, Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi expressed sorrow over the tragedy, saying that the deceased included nationals from Pakistan and India. He noted that medical care is being provided to those injured and that authorities are closely monitoring their condition.
QatarEnergy has not disclosed which section of the facility was affected or the extent of the damage. However, Al-Kaabi confirmed that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident. The blast was reportedly so powerful that it was felt in central Doha, while residents living nearly 70 kilometers from Ras Laffan reported their windows shaking. The Ras Laffan LNG explosion is now under investigation as authorities seek to establish the circumstances behind the deadly accident.
