Singer Abrarul Haq has alleged that the rights to his iconic song Nach Punjaban were taken through forged documents and later used without his permission in the Bollywood film Jugjugg Jeeyo.
Speaking on a recent podcast, Abrar-ul-Haq said he never sold the rights to Nach Punjaban to any Bollywood production. He revealed that when he questioned those involved about the song’s use, he was given what he described as an unusual explanation.
According to the singer, he was told that the song had been acquired from his friend Haroon Rashid. Abrar rejected the claim, saying he had never transferred ownership of the song to Haroon and that the track remained his intellectual property.
The singer further alleged that forged documents bearing fake versions of his signature had been prepared to justify the song’s use. He claimed that similar practices had affected several other artists as well, accusing Bollywood of manipulating facts to support its position.
When asked specifically about the use of Nach Punjaban in a film produced by Karan Johar, Abrar-ul-Haq said no permission had been sought from him. He alleged that the film was heavily promoted around the song and described the situation as unfair.
Abrar added that he has already filed a legal case over the matter and is pursuing the issue through the courts. The dispute over Nach Punjaban first gained attention when the song was featured in the Bollywood film Jugjugg Jeeyo, sparking a public debate over copyright and intellectual property rights.
