Bilawal welcomes historic US-Iran memorandum

Published on: June 18, 2026 4:50 PM

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari called the United States-Iran memorandum of understanding a historic breakthrough. He said dialogue delivers better outcomes than conflict and promotes regional stability. His remarks matter for Pakistan’s political landscape and citizens seeking economic growth and peace.

Addressing the National Assembly, Bilawal praised Pakistan’s military leadership for strengthening the country’s standing through diplomatic efforts. He said peaceful engagement creates opportunities for development and employment. Furthermore, he commended President Asif Ali Zardari for supporting initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and encouraging cooperation.

Bilawal also warned that some elements still seek to destabilize Pakistan despite the Iran-US ceasefire. He referred to threats linked to India’s reported Operation Sindoor 2. However, he stressed that constitutional mechanisms remain strong and allow both federal and provincial governments to exercise their financial powers.

Meanwhile, the PPP chairman rejected concerns that the 18th Constitutional Amendment or provincial rights were under threat. He said the National Finance Commission award remains protected. He also noted that provinces deserve a greater share from petroleum levy revenues and other taxes. Additionally, he thanked the federal leadership for addressing concerns raised before the budget.

In his concluding remarks, Bilawal strongly defended the Benazir Income Support Programme. He described the initiative as essential for poverty reduction and economic stability. He urged policymakers to expand the programme and support vulnerable families. Moreover, he called for greater cooperation between federal and provincial governments to strengthen national unity and address future challenges.
