The Punjab government has formed a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the Chakwal tragedy in which an innocent person lost their life. Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced the decision during a post-budget press briefing, saying the government is committed to uncovering all facts surrounding the incident.
Aurangzeb said the chief minister ordered an immediate investigation after the incident came to light. She added that the committee is reviewing all aspects of the case and will submit a detailed report to the chief minister on Thursday. The government, she said, is focused on ensuring transparency and accountability.
According to the senior minister, Sohail Zafar Chattha has already submitted a detailed statement regarding the incident. She also said he is expected to address the media to explain the circumstances and provide further clarification on the matter.
Aurangzeb stated that preliminary findings suggest the incident was not a personal dispute involving the official and the girl. She said initial information indicates that a robbery was underway at the time, during which an innocent person was killed.
The Punjab government reiterated that the inquiry committee will complete its work and present findings to the chief minister. Officials said further details will be shared publicly once the investigation progresses, as authorities aim to determine the facts and ensure accountability.
