Bilawal vows to defend rights of tribal people after Centre imposes tax

Published on: June 17, 2026 6:09 AM

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday tasked Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi with addressing the prevailing wheat crisis in the province.

The directive came during a meeting with PPP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha where in Kundi was also present.

PPP Central Secretary Information Nadeem Afzal Chan and Sindh Government Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon were also in attendance.

During the meeting, Bilawal and Bacha discussed the political situation and party’s organizational situation in the province

Bilawal and Bacha were also briefed on the youth convention in Abbottabad and the public contact campaign event in Mansehra.

“The performance of the party organization in Abbottabad was impressive, and the party organization in Mansehra did a good job,” Bilawal told Bacha.

Moreover, Bilawal expressed concern over the wheat crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “Just as you resolved the CNG issue, play your role in resolving the wheat crisis,” Bilawal instructed Kundi.

“Fight Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s case by taking all political parties along,” he said.

Kundi also briefed Bilawal on the tax imposed on FATA and PATA in the federal budget. “I will continue to raise my voice for the rights of the people of FATA and PATA,” Bilawal said. He was also informed about the law and order situation in the province.

Earlier, the PPP raised reservations over the federal budget 2026, prompting a series of meetings between government and PPP delegations led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.

According to sources, the PPP questioned changes in budget figures and asked the government to explain why the numbers in the budget booklet differ from the figures earlier shared with the party.

During the meeting, the PPP raised the issue of changes in the federal budget figures before Ishaq Dar. According to sources, PPP leaders took the position that the party had supported grants only for the defence budget.

The delegation asked the government to clarify why the figures mentioned in the budget booklet were different from the numbers provided to the PPP earlier. Dar assured the PPP delegation that its reservations would be removed.
