The location for the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States has been changed. The ceremony, which was earlier planned to be held in Geneva, will now take place in Bürgenstock on June 19.
According to the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bürgenstock is located near Lucerne in central Switzerland and is considered more suitable for security reasons due to its difficult terrain. The ministry said the venue was proposed by mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, as well as by both the United States and Iran.
Sources said that the historic peace agreement ceremony will be hosted by Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to depart on Thursday, accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and several federal ministers.
Reports also suggest that Iran will be represented by Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Earlier, US President Donald Trump had hinted at possibly attending the ceremony, although it is more likely that Vice President JD Vance will represent the United States.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Qatar has played a role in mediation under Pakistan’s leadership and will also be represented at the event. Representatives from Pakistan, Iran, the United States, Qatar, and other regional countries are expected to attend the signing ceremony.
